Wilson Audio Sabrina V vs Sabrina X – What is the difference?

Sabrina V is the latest speaker to come from US heavyweights Wilson Audio. The Sabrina now joins Wilson’s range of V speakers and with it comes a host of improvements from the previous Sabrina X model. Let’s take a look at what’s different.

Cabinet

Firstly the cabinet is taller on the V, it has been redesigned and is slightly slimmer in profile giving a sleeker appearance. Wilson have also worked on improving the isolation by incorporating their V-MCD isolation technology. To achieve this they add the new ‘V-material’ to the base of the enclosure and partner it with the highly-praised diode spikes. This provides an even quieter background, making the music feel deeper and more alive.

Improved Drive Units

The drive units are clearly a very important part of any loudspeaker and this is where Wilson have made some big improvements. The Sabrina V has added the Quadramag mid-range driver which was designed for the larger Wilson models (From WATT/Puppy up to Chronosonic XVX) for which they have had great success. The AlNiCo (Aluminium – Nickel – Cobalt) QuadraMag driver is renowned for its exceptional ability to settle and maintain linearity resulting in greater depth and dimensionality.

Another significant change to the V is the addition of the CSC tweeter. Again, a key component in the modern Wilson models, the Convergent Synergy Carbon (CSC) tweeter delivers an astonishingly natural high-frequency response. This lightly coated textile dome tweeter seamlessly blends with the AlNiCo mid-range and 8-inch woofer. The CSC offers extended linearity, refined harmonic detail, and a natural sense of acoustic space.

New ‘H’ Material Baffle

Sabrina V pioneers a groundbreaking addition to the Wilson Audio materials library: H-Material. Developed as a high-density composite with organic and phenolic properties. H-Material is similar to X-Material in inflexibility, yet slightly softer with different construction. Wilson have used this new material for the front baffle giving more musicality in the mid-range over the Sabrina X which uses the X material on the baffle. The Sabrina V uses the X material still for outside panels and structural parts where the extra hardness is necessary.

AudioCap Copper Capacitors

A newly engineered copper version of the AudioCapX-WA, a variant first introduced in Sasha V, now includes a copper end-spray. This refinement improves high-frequency micro-detail and spatial clarity, resulting in a more articulate and natural sonic presentation. Bass integration is also enhanced through the development of a new woofer capacitor.

Hardware & Resistor Access

Not just a stylish upgrade, the new rear access panel gives the user improved access and makes tweeter and mid-range resistor changes swift and intuitive. Though we must admit with its metallic finishing and engraved Sabrina V logo it also makes the rear of the speaker look very cool.

Conclusion

Wilson speakers are always evolving and we are pleased to say that this is a fantastic improvement yet again. It is clear from the amount of upgrades that Wilson have included in the Sabrina V that the goal is to bring the performance more in line with the larger models in the range (The Watt/ Puppy, Sasha V). We strongly believe that Wilson have done a brilliant job with this. The sound from the Sabrina V has the hallmarks that we have come to expect from the ‘V’ range speakers with impressive, controlled bass, musicality in the md-range, excellent dynamics and a subtlety that makes the Sabrina V sound effortless even on the difficult recordings.

If you are new to the Wilson range or looking to upgrade from a previous model, we definitely advise that you book a demonstration and hear what this speaker can achieve. Get in touch to arrange an audition now at info@kjwestone.co.uk.
