We are excited to announce we have received the highly anticipated flagship 717 power amplifier from Soulution which is now in our Central London store and available for audition.
The 717 supersedes the 711 amplifier which has been a common fixture in our main demonstration room over the last 5 years.
We believe the improvements from the 711 to the 717 are easy to hear. Much like the big jump from the 725 preamp to the 727 last year, we were immediately impressed with how much Soulution have been able to improve an already incredible product.
Designed and manufactured in Switzerland, the 717 represents Soulution’s latest reference in dual-mono amplifier topology. It delivers up to 2kW into 2 ohms with extremely low distortion. The result is uncompromising resolution, dynamics, and control.
The 717 takes everything the 711 did well and moves several steps ahead with a completely fresh design. Where the 711 delivered speed, control and low distortion, the 717 sharpens the focus with full dual mono construction and significantly improved power handling. Each channel is fed by four independent switched-mode power supplies, capable of delivering over 400 amps in short bursts. That translates to grip and drive that never falter, even with challenging loudspeakers.
The circuitry has also been reworked. The 717 operates at extraordinarily wide bandwidth and uses a new gain architecture that keeps phase shifts and distortion vanishingly low. Its input stage borrows from Soulution’s 727 preamp, which brings cleaner rejection of noise and interference from the outset. Stereo separation is stronger, and the amplifier offers flexible configuration options, whether you’re running stereo, dual mono or fully bridged.
We have noticed that the 717 runs hotter than the 711 did. This has been done by design, Soulution have chosen to run the amplifier at an increased temperature in order to produce a sound with additional depth. It has worked, the amplifier really comes to life.
We believe this amplifier is quite a special product and recommend anyone who is looking for a high-end power amplifier to book in an audition and hear it for themselves.
