System Of The Week – Magico S1 Mkii, Dcs Rossini & Soulution

This week’s system idea is perfect high-end option for someone with an eye for minimalist and clean design but wants an detailed, audiophile sound.

The speakers are the S1 Mk II model from US speaker aficionados Magico. They have not been around for decades like many big manufacturers but in their time they have made a huge impact in the industry. They are now regarding as one of the premier speaker brands in the world.

The enclosure of the S1 Mk II is formed from a single piece of thick extruded aluminium. The slender enclosure is supported internally by an innovative bracing technique along with advanced damping materials and glues that minimise resonance and maximize structural rigidity and stability. It is an incredibly well thought out speaker. From the design to the materials used, everything is there to make a difference to the sound.

The source used in this system is the Rossini Player from the UK’s dCS. This is a streamer, DAC and CD Player all-in-one. Designed for flexibility and ease of use without compromise, Rossini uses the very latest dCS Digital Processing Platform and Ring DACTM technology, originally developed for the flagship Vivaldi series. Its single FPGA brings improved signal processing and superior flexibility, effectively making it future-proof. dCS is fairly unique in the industry as they develop their own chips (most digital companies buy in off the shelf), this means dCS are able to stay on the very cutting edge in terms of file types and usability. If a new technology is introduced to the industry dCS can work on it straight away and get it integrated as quickly as possible.

The amplification in this system is the 325 preamplifier and 311 power amplifier from Soulution. This is a pairing that offers an incredibly detailed sound, particularly in the mid-range. This will be a great pairing with the Magico speakers that have similar strengths. The Soulution is able to make a good recording shine like almost no other amplifier in the world. They really are special amplifiers.

The 300 series is their ‘entry level’ option, however they are a very high-end company so their entry is the level of most peoples flagship! The design and manufacture is very Swiss with an unrivaled attention to detail and an extremely high quality of materials and components.

Overall this system will give you a sound that is very musical, showcasing every little detail but with added dynamics from the dCS to give a realism and atmosphere to the sound which is so highly sought after in the world of hi-fi. This will bring the musicians into your home so to speak.
