As the London’s biggest McIntosh dealer we pride ourselves on having an up-to-date and versatile range of Mac products. As such we have recently received two new products, the MC462 power amplifier and the MA5300 integrated.
Both these new products are upgraded versions of popular McIntosh amplifiers, replacing the MC452 and MA5200 respectively.
The MC462 is now McIntosh’s most powerful stereo power amplifier. It features a very respectable output of 450 Watts per channel and with the dedicated Mac autoformer connected to each audio channel, the full wattage is available to your speaker regardless if it has 2, 4 or 8 Ohm impedance.
There are a number of significant upgrade from the previous MC452 model, most notable the filter capacity has been increased by nearly 50%, which has resulted in a remarkable 66% increase in dynamic headroom from 1.8dB to 3.0dB. This helps easily handle drastic dynamic changes with virtually no distortion. This also improves the bass. Internal wiring and select circuit components have also been upgraded.
The MA5300 Integrated amplifier is the new starting point of the McIntosh amplifier range. Don’t be fooled by its size though, it’s a direct coupled amplifier that delivers 100 Watts per channel into 8 Ohm speakers or 160 Watts per channel into 4 Ohm speakers.
The MA5300’s complement of 12 inputs includes 6 analogue inputs (4 unbalanced, 1 balanced and 1 Moving Magnet input for turntables) and 6 digital inputs (2 each coaxial and optical, 1 USB and 1 proprietary MCT for use with our MCT series of SACD/CD Transports). All digital inputs are housed in our DA1 Digital Audio Module which can be replaced by future modules as new digital audio technologies are developed. The DA1 comes with an 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) used in Quad Balanced mode and supports up to DSD256 and DXD 384kHz for high resolution audio playback.
The price of the MC462 is £12,495 and the MA5300 retails for £6,750.
